Watch the Second Cinelmotion TV Programme

“Sometimes reality surpasses fiction but fiction is almost always reality.”

We have the pleasure to announce that the second TV programme produced by Cinelmotion, the consortium led by EAVI , is now available to watch on our website. The Cinelmotion project is designed to promote awareness and critical understanding while strengthening the links between European and Latin American cinema. The second programme is jam-packed with educational but entertaining snippets on the audiovisual heritage of Hispanophone countries, including interviews with directors, young people and film experts.

In this programme we are taken to the set of the film Atrapats, directed by Miquel Puertas. We meet a Spanish company that trains actors in stunts and special effects, to find out what it takes to become one of these daring actors. The programme also reports on the Latin American film festival of Huelva where young filmmakers were the stars of the show. Marcel Rasquin, a young Venezuelan director, won the Audience Award for his film Hermano. Furthermore, there is also coverage of the 17th Barcelona Independent Film Festival, with interviews with directors and media professionals.

But this programme does not just revolve around the stars; it also takes to the streets, across the Spanish-speaking world, to find out which films people believe are most representative of their country and cultural heritage. In which films is it possible to smell and taste Latin America?

Then, going to a different setting altogether, we enjoy an interview with Stefano Savona, the director of a docu-drama about the Gaza conflict. He explains that his aim was to simply show, rather than to interpret, what was happening. We see that an interesting debate arises from his statement: is it possible to keep an objective distance from your subject, especially in the act of creating a piece of (audiovisual) media?

In another section of the programme, Dr. José Maria Perceval gives his thoughts on the film ‘Expulsados’, a docu-fiction about the expulsion of Muslims from Spain. The film interweaves narratives from both the 17th century and the present day. The same actors are used for both narratives which, as Dr. Perceval explains, gives the audience a more solid connection with the historical events.

In these ways, the programme aims to promote European and Latin American audiovisual cultural heritage and give suggestions for young people on how to ‘read’ and interpret films. EAVI considers this to be a compelling second Cinelmotion programme which will appeal to a varied audience.
